Despite having the success of Mma over the past 5yrs, it still has not claimed the reputation it rightfully warrants. While millions of fans cannot barely wait until the few weeks ultimately end in between Ultimate fighting championship and Strikeforce cards, there are still many cities and states in the states who have yet to leap on the fighting wagon. Many feel it's unsafe, including not regulated properly. Certainly UFC President Dana White has argued this point to the end proclaiming that it's so controlled for a professional sport it puts many other nationally televised ones to shame. Maybe it's simply just the danger that the sport undoubtedly brings to the table as being an mma fighter is no walk in the park that frightens some law makers off, but at the end of the day it is a sport and a business no less.

For a very long time, the Ufc has been dancing around the state of NYC and trying its best to have them on the roster of terrific places to hold fights. However, so far they've yet to get on board. Dana has offered the state of holding two Ultimate fighting championship cards there on an annual basis, that will definitely bring plenty of income in for the area, in return for sanctioning the sport of MMA in New York. These two cards annually will be held in the famous Madison Square Garden and one more someplace in upstate New York.

New York hasn't ever been keen on UFC Fighting, which truly does seem odd considering it is a huge city for Boxing, but is completely against Mixed martial arts. Back in 1997, the state in fact completely banned MMA and it is moving forward to do this yet again. It really doesn't add up to most fans, of which NY has a huge market prepared to support UFC in their home towns with all the cards having the possibility to generate over twenty million dollars per year. New Jersey has jumped on board and it has confirmed how successful it can be across the east coast. The New Jersey area being so close to so many neighborhoods in New York, has opened up it's doors to Mma and profited handsomely from doing this. For the many fans that can't have a great Mixed martial arts show in New York City, they take a short journey to Jersey and obtain the fighting fix they need for now.

Strikeforce will be holding a large venue in New Jersey shortly, making it much more obvious that there's actually a market for fighting there. Will this profit gain from holding Mixed martial arts events in NY change any opinions for all those in charge to change it? The lobbyists and assemblymen that once described Mma as "barbaric" could always attend a few fights and then form their rules and opinions from those experiences, but that day may never come any time soon. It would appear that for the time being, NY residents will have to wait it out and hopefully sooner or later the Mma ban will come to an end there. There might be a silver lining to this cloud as Mixed martial arts was illegal in a number of states for years, and currently has less than a handful to permit the sport.
